| Galaxy Optimizer V4.1 |
 |
| V4.1 Build 21 Release date: June 2003 |
Optimizer V4.1 implements a different architecture in terms of installation and licensing over previous revisions. The software itself globally remains the same with a few enhancements and bug fixes.
Architecture changes: installation and licensing
The installation is now done through a tar.gz file (no longer use the graphical installation tool)
No more client/server architecture. The software is now installed in the user's account (or on a NFS server with very little data stored in the user's account). No server is required.
The user now installs the software without needing any Admin rights (except if installed on a NFS server, which of course requires a sysadmin ; and each user then simply runs a small installation
script from the NFS server).
No installation is required at the tester.
When launched, the software checks system patches, and if some required patches are missing, a message is displayed with patch installation instructions.
New license policy: when first launched, the software opens a license request dialog box, where the user selects if he wants to validate an evaluation license or a 1 year full-access license (which must have been ordered). The user then sends a registration file to license@galaxysemi.com and
in return receives a license file to copy to his account:
<Optimizer installation directory>/admin
(e.g.: ${HOME}/galaxy/optimizer/admin).
Some typical questions upgrading to this new release:
|
| What about the 'goa' utility, is it dropped? |
The 'goa' remains in the 'server' version of Optimizer. Your release is the new Optimizer Standalone release that no longer needs many of the previous setups the goa handled. Concerning the license file, each user downloads and installs his own license.
|
| What about Image header files, still need a local copy? |
Optimizer now automatically uses your existing Image / C header folders (if they can be found). So unless Image is not visible from the engineers accounts, the image sub-folder is no longer required.
